Do you know a child who would benefit from spending time discovering nature and wildlife, exercising creativity, and learning to care for our environment? The Friends of Boyd Hill Nature Preserve are pleased to offer Summer Camp scholarships for families in need of financial assistance. Any adult (parent, guardian, teacher, pastor, mentor, Big Brother/Big Sister) can nominate a child (age 5-13) for a Friends of Boyd Hill Nature Preserve Camp Scholarship. Scholarships cover the full cost of camp and extended care (if needed). Scholarships are available for the following camp dates and types:

2022 Boyd Hill Summer Camp Dates:

Week 1: May 31 – June 3, 2022 (4 Day Camp)

Week 2:  June 6 – 10, 2022

Week 3: June 13 - 17, 2022

Week 4: June 21 – 24, 2022 (4 Day Camp)

Week 5: June 27 – July 1, 2022

Week 6: July 5 – 8, 2022 (4 Day Camp)

Week 7: July 11 -15, 2022

Week 8: July 18 – 22, 2022

Week 9: July 25 – 29, 2022

Week 10: August 1 – 5, 2022

2022 Boyd Hill Summer Camp Types:

Note: The following camp types are offered for each of the above ten weeks.


Ages: 5 - 6

9 am - 4 pm

Extended Care 8 am to 5 pm

Young Naturalist Camp focuses on nature and science topics. Exciting activities include nature hikes, games, and animal and plant studies. Campers explore the natural world, learn to share discoveries, work together, develop their personal creativity, and have fun.

Location: Hammock Hall – Classroom

Cost: $150

Extended Care: $25

Limit of 20 campers


Ages: 5 - 7

9 am - 4 pm

Extended Care 8 am to 5 pm

Campers stomp through grasses, walk along winding trails, and look up at the trees and clouds as they explore different wonders of nature. Campers will spend time outdoors observing animals, finding various patterns in nature, and learning plant and wildlife identification skills. Each day, campers will learn about a different topic through lessons, books, crafts, and outdoor explorations.

Limit of 45 campers


Ages: 7 - 13

9 am - 4 pm

Extended Care 8 am to 5 pm

Campers learn about Florida's unique habitats and their inhabitants, get dirty during dip netting, observe wildlife while hiking preserve trails and acquire basic birding skills. Designed with new themes and guest programs throughout the summer, every day includes relevant natural history topics and exciting adventures, crafts, and activities.

Location: Osprey’s Roost

Cost: $150

FoBHNP Members: $140

Extended Care: $25

Limit of 30 campers

In order to be eligible for a scholarship, the nominee must meet the following criteria:
  • Ages 5-13
  • Qualify for the free or reduced lunch program

Parent/guardian(s) will be notified of selections by April 18, 2022.

These scholarships are made possible by the Friends of Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, Inc. through generous contributions from local businesses, organizations, and private donors. Donations for the camp scholarships are still being accepted and can be made online at Checks should be made payable to Friends of Boyd Hill and can be dropped of at the Lake Maggiore Environmental Education Center (1101 Country Club Way South, St. Petersburg, FL 33705).
